Riding School

The Riding School at Lake Fork Stables offers English and Western riding lessons to children ages 6 and up as well as adults. Our program is a horse-first focused program meaning that we incorporate horsemanship into every aspect of our lessons. This also means that some lessons may be unmounted, either due to weather, equine welfare or to improve the horsemanship of the rider. Lake Fork Stables utilizes a levels-based curriculum providing not only a set of guidelines and standards, but goals and recognition for each level achieved. We also follow Warwick Schiller’s The Principles of Training in all of our interactions with the horses.

Riding School lessons are private 1-hour lessons. Lessons include catching, grooming, tacking, riding, and untacking the horse. The amount of riding time is dependent on the amount of time it takes for the rider to groom and tack their horse. Group lessons may become available in the future with enough interest and based on the availability of the riders.

Private lessons are $50 per hour. Semi-private lessons are $40 per hour.

Lake Fork Stables Show Team

For those interested in showing, riders must reach the Yellow Level of Horsemanship. This level ensures that the rider has a solid foundation and is ready to move beyond our home arena to that of local shows and events.

We will show in Sulphur Springs at the Northeast Texas Dressage Club shows, which offers in-hand, classical, and western dressage. Four horse shows will be offered per year. Additional show opportunities may be offered as well if the scheduling works for us.

Horse show fees to be expected:

  • Membership fee to NETX Dressage ($40 one-time annual fee) and includes a Group Membership to the United States Dressage Federation.

  • Stall fee ($30 - may be split if sharing a horse)

  • Shavings - $7

  • Office fee ($25)

  • Class fees ($22 per class)

  • Hauling/Coaching Fee - $40
