Internships Opportunities

Lake Fork Stables has a number of intern positions available to help us grow and expand our mission. If you have a love of sharing horses with kids and others, then this is the perfect opportunity to put your equine education to work while helping the community.

  • Fundraising Intern

    Lake Fork Stables seeks an intern that is willing to fundraise, get sponsorships and earn monthly donors. Research grant opportunities. This is a vital part of running a nonprofit and ensuring that we can meet our mission of bringing horses and joy to the kids of East Texas.

    You do not need horse experience, but you do need to understand the benefits of horseback riding and horsemanship for kids, particularly those on the autism spectrum or other mental health constraints.

    Note: This is an unpaid position.

    *This position can be done remotely, but may require traveling to local businesses, etc. Reliable transportation will be important.

  • Marketing Intern

    Lake Fork Stables needs an intern to help with digital marketing and promotion. This would include creating and scheduling email newsletters, mailings, and social media posts. Collaboration with the fundraising intern to plan events and other marketing opportunities to garner donations and sponsors.

    Note: This is an unpaid position. Internship can be done remotely with occassional visits to the farm during lessons for taking photos/video.

    *Must have great communication and organization skills

    *Proficient with Microsoft Products and Canva and possibly Photoshop

    *Creative and hardworking

    *Undergraduate or minor in Marketing

  • Assistant Riding Instructor

    Lake Fork Stables seeks an assistant riding instructor to teach afternoon lessons during the weekdays. Students are ages 6 and up, including adults. Must be able to teach basic horsemanship from the ground up and provide coaching during lessons to help students achieve their riding goals. Some students may be on the autism spectrum or have other learning disabilities. Lake Fork Stables follows the Pony Club riding curriculum.

    Note: This is an unpaid position. However, there is the opportunity for it to become a paid position for the right fit. Showing opportunities may also be available.

    *Must be available in the afternoons from 4-6pm at least two weekdays.

  • Assistant Trainer

    A large part of the Lake Fork Stables program is Thoroughbred aftercare. This means that we often have horses that have retired from the racetrack and require training to develop them into lesson horses or horses that are suitable for adoption if they aren’t a good fit for our program.

    The assistant trainer will work with these horses weekly to help them transition into their new careers. Horse experience is required.

  • Excursion Host

    Lake Fork Stables offers horseback riding excursions for tourists and visitors to the Lake Fork area. These are hands-on experiences that allow the guest to learn how to groom, tack and then ride in our arena. The majority of guests are experiencing horses for the first time. They are interested in learning more about our program and our retired racehorses. Excursions are booked via direct phone calls as well as AirBnB experiences. They do tend to be on the weekends and around holidays when people are visiting the area. They are not on a set schedule but we try to plan ahead as much as possible.

  • Camp Director

    Lake Fork Stables offers three weeks of summer camp in June. Additional camp opportunities available throughout the year as well following the public school schedule.

    We need an individual to oversee the camp as a whole, teach the horseback riding portions, and coordinate camp counselors. Horse experience is required. Background check required. A small salary may be available.

  • Camp Counselors

    Lake Fork Stables needs at least three camp counselors for the three weeks of camp in June. Counselors will assist the Camp Director. Horse experience is helpful, but not necessary.
