Stable Futures

Guided by Horses. Grounded in Hope.

Equine-assisted therapy offers youth impacted by substance abuse in any capacity a safe and supportive space to rebuild trust, confidence, and emotional resilience. Through guided interactions with horses—who respond honestly to behaviors and emotions—participants learn healthy coping skills, communication, and self-awareness. The powerful bond formed with these gentle partners helps youth process trauma, reduce anxiety, and develop a renewed sense of purpose and hope for their future.

Each student will be assigned a horse from our herd of retired racehorses and lesson horses. Students will learn to navigate their relationship with their assigned horse just as they would with people in real life. Students will work through a three-level ground training curriculum in which they will train their horses and themselves to work through challenges. Each class will include both groundwork training and horsemanship/horse care sessions. Upon completion of the groundwork courses, students will earn ribbons for each level and may be eligible to continue in our Riders Up! program and receive free or deeply discounted riding lessons.

Because this course is offered free of charge, we ask that participants commit to attending the sessions they register for. Classes will be offered on Thursday afternoons from 5-7 pm starting January 15th, 2025. We will start with an initial 8-week course plan and add additional weeks as needed for students who wish to continue.

This course is for youth ages 10-17. To enroll, click below and create a parent and rider profile on our EC Pro booking system. Select January 15th under “Choose Your Date” and scroll down to the Activity Courses.
