East Texas Giving Day is April 28th and represents a day of giving specifically for the East Texas area. We are excited to be participating in this 18-hour online event. Early giving has begun donors are encouraged to start making donations now at www.EastTexasGivingDay.org.

Lake Fork Stables has set a goal of $2000. During this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need these funds now more than ever. The minimum donation is $10.

Why support Lake Fork Stables?

It is our mission to help our local kids by providing them with the opportunity to better their lives through horses. The kids in our programs are improving their self-confidence and self-esteem as well as learning valuable skills involving hard work and dedication to animals that depend on us for their care and well-being.

The funds raised for East Texas Giving Day are going to be pivotal for us. Due to the pandemic, we have had to stop lessons, but we still have to keep the horses fed, hooves trimmed and water tanks filled. The care of the horses are our priority while we wait out the shelter at home orders in place.

We are also using this time to develop a new rider’s manual and awards levels so that we can track progress while encouraging the kids to continue through the program and increase their skill levels. We have been sharing coloring sheets, fun information about horses and other online resources that the kids can learn from during the pandemic as well. It’s important to us that we still maintain some level of activity and teaching even while we can’t be with the kids at the barn.

At this time, it does not appear that the new legislation in the CARES Act will help us at all. The EIDL loan is geared towards small businesses with employees. While we are technically a small business, although nonprofit, we do not have any employees as we are volunteer ran, but we do have bills.

The Benefits of Donating During the COVID-19 Pandemic

While we may not benefit as a business, you can benefit as a donor. The CARES Act allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if you do not itemize on your taxes next year. $300 feeds all of horses for 1 month! If you do itemize on your taxes, you are allowed to donate up to 100% of your adjust gross income for 2020.

Please consider giving if you can. We know times are tough, especially for families in our community. Just $10 will make a huge difference in keeping our programming going when the shelter at home mandates are lifted!
